Weight units

🏆Practice weight units

Weight units allow us to quantify weight.

Units of weight to know:

A1 - Weight units

One gram is equivalent to 1000 1000 milligrams.

One kilogram is equivalent to 1000 1000 grams.

One ton is equivalent to 1000 1000 kilograms.

Example of exercise with weight units

How many grams are in 2 2 kilograms?

If there are 1000 1000 grams in one kilogram, we must multiply the number of kilograms by 1000 1000 to obtain the equivalent number of grams.

21000=2000 2\cdot1000=2000

That is, 2 2 kilograms equals 2000 2000 grams.

Another exercise with weight units

How many kilograms are 200 200 grams?

We have seen that to convert kilograms to grams we multiply by 1000 1000 .

To do the reverse operation and convert a number given in grams to kilograms we divide by 1000 1000 .

1 1 kilogram = 1000 1000 grams

200 200 grams = kilograms

Therefore,

200/1000= 200/1000=

0.2 kilograms

Ejemplos y ejercicios con soluciones de unidades de peso

Exercise #1

7.8T=?kg 7.8T=?kg

Video Solution

Step-by-Step Solution

The letter T indicates a metric tonne,

One tonne is equivalent to one thousand kilograms,

Therefore, in 7.8 tons there are

1000*7.8 = 7800 kg

Answer

7800 7800

Exercise #2

555×200kg=?T \frac{55}{5}\times200\operatorname{kg}=?T

Video Solution

Step-by-Step Solution

First, let's simplify the fraction:

555=11 \frac{55}{5}=11

This leaves us with:

11×200kg 11\times200kg

Now, let's perform the calculation, giving us:

2200kg 2200kg

Note that we need the answer in tons:

T=1000kg T=1000kg

2200kg1000=2.2T \frac{2200kg}{1000}=2.2T

Answer

2.2

Exercise #3

Review questions

What units of weight are there?

Just as all units of measurement have multiples, weight units also have multiples or submultiples as equivalences between them, for example in the case of weight units the most common are:

Kilograms, hectograms, decagrams, grams, decigram, centigram, milligram.

There are also the units of pound, ounce, tons that are still equivalences between a unit of reference.

How is the unit conversion done?

In order to see how a unit conversion is done, an equivalence is needed and we will make an example to better understand how to do it.

Example

What is the equivalent of 1616 ounces in grams?

Solution

To be able to make the conversion we need to know the equivalence of ounce in grams

1onza=28.35 1 onza= 28.35 grams

So if one ounce is equal to 28.35 28.35 grams, then to know how many grams are in 16 ounces we must do a multiplication.

16×28.35=453.6 16 \times 28.35= 453.6

So we can say that 1616 ounces is equal to 453.6453.6 grams.

Result

453.6 453.6 grams.

How much does 1 pound equal to 1 kg?

One pound is equal to 0.453592 0.453592 kilograms, that is, one pound is also equal to 453.592 453.592 grams.
